Meet Courtney Barlow-Schulte
Hi, I’m Courtney Barlow-Schulte. I am a longtime Covington resident and a proud public school graduate. I grew up in Erlanger, KY but returned to my families’ roots here in Covington to raise my young family just blocks away from where my grandparents were raised in Peaselburg, and where my father (Holmes Class of ’68) grew up.
My public school education prepared me to excel at the University of Kentucky, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Human Geography specialization in Latin American Studies. My parents, teachers, and mentors not only gave me a great education but a passion to serve my community starting in Girl Scouts and 4-H through my year of service as an AmeriCorps VISTA and finally to dedicating my career to nonprofit service- not only as staff but through board work as well.
I am running for Covington Board of Education this November because Covington sits in a unique position right now. In just the past 16 years that I have lived here, I have seen the change, the growth, and the success of many neighborhoods and businesses, but we need to make sure that we are bringing everyone along in that success and that especially goes for the children of Covington. As we focus on the positive growth in our community, we need make sure that our schools- all of our schools- are getting equal access to the benefits of this growth. With my experience in community development, I understand that we do not get to creative and effective solutions without hearing the voices, concerns, and ideas of everyone in the community.
I have worked on nonprofit development teams creating effective strategic plans, budgets, and diverse fundraising plans- organizations such as Dress for Succes Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Art Museum, and currently as the Director of Development & Communications at The Center for Great Neighborhoods in Covington. It is these skills, and my experience working with the community to find creative solutions that I will bring to the Covington Board of Education.
Not only am I a longtime resident and community development professional, I am also a Covington parent. My husband and I are raising three little boys in Peaselburg. We have two sons in the CIPS district and our third will start next year. Being a parent in the district has been invaluable to understanding the wonderful strengths of our district and the needs of our schools and students.
I hope to earn your vote this November!
